On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 25-27, The Mill Casino will host BBQ, Blues & Brews on the Bay, a three-day celebration featuring lip-smacking good barbecue, locally-crafted beers and sizzling hot blues music with the Ty Curtis Band, The Vipers and Brooks Robertson. The event is sponsored by Green Mountain Grill, Marshfield Bargain House, and K-Dock 92.9.
Judges and Entrants Wanted for $5,000 Memorial Day BBQ Competition
Think you’ve got the chops to win your share of $5,000 and bragging rights for having the Coast’s best barbecue? Whether you’re a grill master, or just love to eat good BBQ, The Mill Casino is looking for those who love making and eating barbecue to participate in this Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event.
Starting Friday, May 25, barbecue aficionados can become certified Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) judges in preparation for judging Sunday’s BBQ competition. The class is $70 for non-KCBS members and $45 for existing members. To sign up for the KCBS certification class, download the application at www.themillcasino.com. Registrations must be received by May 18.
On Friday night at 5 p.m. BBQ, Blues & Brews on the Bay officially kicks off with a smoking hot band in the Salmon Room, featuring The Vipers and delicious barbecue by Hole In The Wall Barbecue and The Mill Casino.
Starting Saturday at noon, hungry BBQ fans can enjoy a sneak preview of what the 20-plus BBQ competitors will be serving up to the judges during Sunday’s competition. At just $1 per 2- ounce piece of BBQ, no one is likely to go home hungry. At 8 p.m. on Saturday night, The Mill Casino will host live entertainment in the Salmon Room for those 21 and older, featuring Salem’s award-winning blues rockers, the Ty Curtis Band.
Throughout both Saturday and Sunday, while guests are entertained by Brooks Robertson and other live bands, guests can help decide which regional brewery crafts the best beer. Sample outstanding beers from Ninkasi, Deschutes Brewery, Seven Brides Brewing, Pyramid Brewery, Full Sail, Bridgeport, Caldera Brewing Company and Cascade Lakes.
Come Sunday morning at 11a.m. after slaving away all night over their smokers, competitors will begin turning in their delectable edibles to the KCBS-sanctioned judges. At 4 p.m. the judges will announce the winners and award a total of $5,000 in prize money. They also will announce the winners of the Top Three Best Brews!

The Kansas City Barbecue Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbeque. The KCBS sanctions over 300 barbeque contests coast-to-coast throughout America. A portion of the BBQ, Blues and Brews on the Bay proceeds will go towards the Coos Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
